Activities
Whatever activities and experiences you want on your Ecuador farmstay experience, we can help you organise them.   The price you pay for each night's accommodation includes one tree seedling, which you are invited to plant yourself or watch being planted.
Of course, your host family will show you around their farm or smallholding.  If you are interested, we can also arrange farm tours to show you other crops and different livestock and you can even help with the harvest.  You might like to pick, roast and grind your own coffee or hot chocolate.
For an active adventure, our guides can take you walking, trekking and climbing in the mountain valleys and some of the remaining areas of cloudforest.  You can also hire a horse and take a guided horseriding tour through beautiful scenery.  On a river rafting trip you will help build a traditional balsawood raft before floating downriver on a 2 or 3 day rafting expedition.
If relaxation is your aim, simply lounge around in a hammock, drinking fresh, tropical fruit juices and watching the hummingbirds.  Cool off in a waterfall or a swimming hole at the river before lunching on freshly-caught fish or enjoying a star-lit barbeque.  Try out our country-style spa treatments using local ingredients.  Let our guides construct a wooden raft, then you can just spend the afternoon floating down the river.
To experience the local culture, you can browse in the local markets or take a heritage tour to the ancient stonecarvings.  Visit our productive community projects: spend time with the CADO sugarcane farming consortium as they crush the cane in horse-driven mills to produce an alcoholic beverage (which you can sample); or visit one of the many community banks in the area.
Dedicated birdwatchers will find a wide variety of birds.  Even the inexperienced will see plenty of hummingbirds and there's a good chance of hearing and seeing toucans as well.  Butterflies including the huge blue morphos feed on the tropical flowers and you will find all sorts of colourful insects on a "bug safari".  Higher into the forest the wildlife includes monkeys, ocelots and armadillos.  A guided night walk in the forest will give you a different perspective on the wildlife in this part of Ecuador.
Choose from our suggested farmstay tour itineraries - whether you want adventure activity, relaxation, cultural activities or a taste of everything - or contact us at ecotourism@progresoverde.org to tailormake your ideal tour.  Alternatively, just book a few days with us and choose your holiday activities as the mood takes you each day.
